Highlight is an award-winning powder additive mixed into existing bleach and chlorine disinfectants that are already being widely used. Highlight colorizes the disinfectant so you never miss a spot, modifies the liquid properties to fully cover and adhere to all surfaces, and fades in color from blue to transparent to indicate when the contact time has been met and decontamination is done. Highlight allows even untrained personnel to immediately disinfect surfaces properly every single time they decontaminate a surface.
A grantee of the USAID Fighting Ebola Grand Challenge, Highlight has been field-tested in Liberia, Guinea, and Haiti for the Ebola and cholera outbreaks. Studies have shown that Highlight significantly improves the ability for healthcare personnel to fully cover surfaces with bleach and chlorine disinfectants and increases their feelings of confidence and safety. Third-party laboratory testing has confirmed that Highlight does not reduce the antimicrobial efficacy of the disinfectant and is non-toxic and safe to use. Highlight is considered an adjuvant (or an additive) by the EPA and does not require a registration number.
Current bleach and chlorine disinfectants:
1) are transparent, making it difficult to verify complete coverage on surfaces;
2) form droplets and roll off waterproof surfaces, leaving gaps in coverage; and
3) have no method of enforcing end-user compliance, with personnel not waiting sufficient contact times to allow the disinfectant to fully inactivate pathogens.
Such human error and a lack of compliance has been shown to leave more than 50% of surfaces in healthcare settings improperly cleaned, putting patients and healthcare workers at risk of infection.
Note: Highlight is not a disinfectant. Highlight is a powder additive combined with existing bleach and chlorine disinfectants.
